What is Myotonia?     Myotonia is the condition that causes fainting goats to stiffen or fall over when startled.  This condition is a combination of recessive genes. The goat will stiffen or stiffen and fall lasting 10 to 20 seconds, at which time they are fully awake and aware of what is going on around them. The fainting does not hurt them or cause any damage to their ability to reproduce or have a long lifespan

Where did they originate?   It is said the Fainting goat can be traced back to early 1800's in Marshall County, Tennessee, where a farmer, John Tinsley, appeared with a buck and 3 does that fainted. He sold them to Dr. H.H. Mayberry.  Dr. Mayberry bred them and persevered this very unique  breed of goatCall Us Today!Fainting Goat Facts and A List of Goat Related Products to have on Hand!
